Jacob is a field scientist involved in estuarine monitoring across Queensland. Seagrass, water quality, mangrove leaves, plankton tows, crustaceans, and even sediment can be used as indicators of estuarine health. Exploring ecosystems is different to seeing them on a map and he appreciates the subtle differences, regionally and seasonally. Estuaries are important as transitional zones between fresh and salt water and serve as nursery habitat’s. Each estuary in Queensland is unique with its associated catchment pressures and its natural beauty. He has always been fascinated by the creatures that live in these places, and his current role allows him the opportunity to explore them regularly and collect data that helps protect them.
