I study how Tasmania is imagined as a place to escape to. I am particularly focused on lifestyle migration, climate migration, and ideas of societal collapse, and what these mean for Tassie. My research focuses a lot on storytelling, including how migrants tell their own stories versus how others portray them. My research takes me into Tasmania’s colonial history, representations in fiction, portrayals in the news, and into interviews with recent migrants. My goal is to lift up the stories of Tasmanian migrants and compare them with the assumptions being made about them.
