Fire behind Mount Roland Tasmania, towards sunset

Wendy Calabria

Mount Roland in NW Tasmania, is exposed to a medium degree of soil erosion due to its height and steepness and the conglomerate rock of which it is formed.

There was a fire-front moving through the area and there was ash and soot in the air from the fire, which contributed to the colour effects behind the mountain. The soot particles in the air have filtered out other parts of the colour spectrum so that the red and orange colours can be seen more vividly.
