My research focuses on tectonic plates and how their past movements have led to today’s continents and submarine features. I focus particularly on the Southwest Pacific, conducting research in the Solomon Islands, and offshore Australia-New Caledonia-New Zealand. I love using a wide variety of techniques – rock chemistry, radiometric dating, microfossils, etc. – to put together the complex puzzle of geologic history! Understanding the tectonic processes behind our landscapes (both marine and terrestrial) refines our ability to research how mineral deposits critical for the energy transition are formed, how ancient ecosystems developed and evolved, and much more.
