I study volcanoes that erupt in the ocean and in Antarctica. In these environments, volcanoes play an important role in building and supporting ecosystems. They release nutrients into the water and air, and they can create new land that animals use for breeding and resting. Volcanoes can both affect the climate and be affected by it. I’m especially interested in the interplay between volcanoes and the Antarctic ice sheet. For example, what is the influence of volcanism on an ice sheet already impacted by climate change and could less ice lead to more volcanoes or more frequent eruptions?
