I am Gayathry Krishnamurthy, researching the shared genetic risk associated with the progression of preeclampsia to heart disease later in life. Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that leads to a five times increased risk of later-life heart disease. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of illness and death in women globally. My work focuses on identifying genetic factors that link preeclampsia to heart disease, with a special emphasis on sex-specific risk factors. By studying large-scale genetic data, I aim to uncover key genetic contributors, paving the way for better risk prediction, personalised medical treatments, and prevention strategies.
