I study habitat restoration for the critically endangered red handfish. This unusual fish uses hand-like fins to “walk” along the seafloor. With fewer than 250 individuals left in the wild, the species is on the brink of extinction, and habitat loss is a major threat. My research focuses on restoring and protecting the environments they depend on. From building artificial reefs to managing habitat-eating sea urchins, my work develops practical, science-based strategies to help save this Tasmanian icon.
