Understanding how animals are connected throughout the landscape is vital for conservation efforts because it ensures genetic diversity can be maintained through gene flow. Using genetics, barriers and corridors can be mapped out across a landscape and isolated populations can be identified, providing insightful information for conservation efforts. I apply this methodology to the cute and cuddly southern greater glider, an endangered arboreal species, who are heavily impacted by fragmentation due to their low movement range and reliance on eucalypt trees for feeding and denning.
