Lyle Bromfield

My research develops new genomic tools to detect emerging disease threats in wildlife and the environment before they become outbreaks. I focus on remote island ecosystems, including in Tasmania and Antarctica, using environmental DNA and ecological data to understand how microbes move between wildlife, people, and the environment. By combining fieldwork with genomic and computational approaches, I aim to identify early warning signs of disease emergence and antimicrobial resistance. This research supports the One Health approach, helping build smarter surveillance systems that protect human, animal, and environmental health in a changing world.
