Degeneration

Artist’s Statement
These art pieces were inspired by Lyzette’s research on MND (Motor neuron disease) with the hope of conveying and depicting core themes, more specifically the degeneration of the motor neurons and where in the body it originates.
My drawings were made digitally with just a tablet and pen. I wanted to clearly and explicitly show the neurons degenerating in a media I felt most comfortable with, while still leaving room for artistic interpretation.
This project has been fun, I’ve enjoyed collaborating with the scientists and it’s taught me a lot about the entire process of being involved in an art exhibition. I’ve also loved getting to learn more about MND which is something I had never considered looking into before.
I hope that when people see my art, they also see the science behind it and feel just as compelled to learn more as I did.
