All the biological specimens not on public display
This behind-the-scenes tour will offer participants a rare opportunity to view some of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery’s zoological collections. These are working collections and represent the most comprehensive collection of Tasmania’s fauna in any one place, anywhere in the world. Parts of the collections are of whole animals, while other parts comprise shells, bones, skins or feathers. Some are of historic significance, while others are recent additions. Each specimen is a uniquely valuable record of life, and the tour will also take a look at some of the specimens’ backstories and the uses to which they are put, sometimes in unexpected ways.
Patron Advice: Each tour is strictly limited to 15 people only. Patrons must be aged 16 years +
Featuring: Dr Catherine Byrne, TMAG Senior Curator of Zoology and Dr David Hocking, TMAG Senior Curator of Vertebrate Zoology and Palaeontology

A Seat at the Table
Beaker Street Festival’s pay-it-forward initiative, A Seat at the Table, helps make our science and art offerings accessible to those who can’t afford to purchase a ticket. When you buy a ticket you have the option to donate towards the cost of a stranger’s ticket. You won’t know who you’ve helped, but your donation will go directly to allowing someone else to access this great event.
If you’d like to request one or two free tickets, please let us know. If we can offer you a seat, we’ll notify you by email.
